Chemical recycling is a process in which plastics are chemically broken down back into their molecules and raw materials. And because plastic is made from crude oil, it can be turned back into synthetic crude. This is exactly what OMV is doing in its innovative Chemical recycling pilot plant at the Schwechat Refinery in Austria. Up to 100 liters of crude oil are produced from around 100 kilograms of plastic waste every hour.
